The women Arel seeks were members of Traip’s first girls cross-country team that year, when the school was first required to field a female team — or stop offering cross country altogether. The mandate came from the federal Title IX law, which requires equity in all educational and extracurricular matters in any school that receives federal funding.

THE TEAM

According to the Traip Academy 1974 yearbook, the following people were members of the girls cross-country team, in addition to Vicki (Brown) Arel: Susan Carter, Elaine Moulton, Joanne Leach, Nancy Bell, Deborah Lynch, Carol Goodwin, Delys Brooks, Carla Frisbee, Annette Keen, Sharon Pauleuc.

Those wishing to contact Arel are asked to e-mail sk8fans@metrocast.net.

She’s hoping to bring together that first team this November to participate in the Seacoast Half Marathon, an annual 13.1-mile run that takes place in Portsmouth.

Nice showing at the Newfields 5k…Chris Ritchie places 2nd overall and Catherine Raynes takes the 3rd place overall female. Dave Ritchie and Gary Rohr take 1st and 3rd place respectively in their age group.

Strawberry Festival 5 miler…Bob Wiles is the first one to cross the finish line on Saturday at the 5miler and I understand he might of been the first runner to eat Strawberry shortcake as well. Congrats to Mary Ulinski for placing 1st in her age group.
